Children`s Concert 2013
Monday 17th June at 5 o`clock in the gym.
The flute group, the drum club, the string orchestra, the children`s orchestra and the string class all played for us at the concert. Many parents of this year`s new first graders sat in the audience and wondered which group would be best for their children.
Thankyou Ms van der Bent, Ms Adler and Ms Rüskamp for a wonderful entertainment.

As part of the transformation to an all-day school we will be getting an extension built. It has now been confirmed that the plans from the architect firm Haslob, Kruse and Partner will be implemented.
On the ground floor will be a canteen with kitchen , music and movement roooms and a library. Upstairs will be space for three classrooms. Building work will begin in Spring 2014 and everything should be ready for the school year 2015/16.
We`re all very pleased to be getting such an interesting new building.

Network Meeting of Mathematicians in Fulda
On the 19/20th April this year`s Mathematician Network Meeting took place in Fulda. Gete School was represented by Gundel Timm, Karoline Witte and Christian Hunold. An informative report about the meeting can be found on the Math Research Homepage http://www.matheforscher.de/
At the end of the article is a link to a film about last year`s meeting in Berlin. Four pupils from Gete were there and can be seen in the film.
The participation in this project has already resulted in some very interesting lessons for several classes.

Re-opening of School Library
The library has been closed since the Easter holidays. Thanks to generous donations by the parents the lending system has been re-organised. Every book has a bar-code which can be scanned to make the taking out and bringing back of books much quicker and the whole system much easier to organise.
The four staff members who work in the library very kindly gave up their time to learn the new system . Many thanks!
Now all the bookworms can come back to the library!

Bremen Primary School Chess Championship 2013
We are the Bremen Primary School Chess Champions 2013!
This year`s tournament was held on 28th Feb. in Habenhausen Secondary School. Forty teams from Bremen and Delmenhorst took part, with each team playing against a team with the same number of points, so that a winner emerged after seven rounds. Each school, including us , fielded several teams and here are our results : Gete III, 14th place, GeteII, 9th place and GeteI, with Jakob, Malte, Moritz and Joschua , 1st place!!
After 6 rounds we faced some strong competition from Mahndorf I and BaumschulenwegI who were leading their group. Jakob and Joschua on boards 1 and 4 had played well all morning but were quickly beaten in the 7th round. Malte and Moritz on boards 2 and 3 knew that everything then depended on them . This provided a very exciting match for the spectators. Moritz won easily having only conceded half a point. This left the last match to Malte who had lost one point. I thought this would put too much pressure on Malte but he proved himself equal to the task and won the the day for us - with this victory we qualify for the German Primary School Chess Championship in May!
The Chess Championship for Gymnasiums was on the 26th and 27th February and both of my teams from Hamburger Str. Gymnasium won. Taking part were 3 ex-Gete Kids, Dmitrij, Long and Jakob G.
Well done everyone!

Chess on the Lake
Gete-Kids successful in Bad Zwischenahn!
Right on time for the primary school chess tournament at the end of February our chess players are in top form. On the first day of the winter break, Thursday 31st January, Jakob, Moritz, Malte and Paul took part in the 150th youth competition.
It was a wonderful location, with plenty of room for the161 competitors and a view from the window of the Zwischenahner Lake.
Everyone played 7 rounds in age appropriate groups - in the Over 11`s (20 players) Jakob came 2nd, Moritz 5th and Malte also made it into the top ten. In the Over 10`s (29 players) Joschua, in what was his first singles match, managed 5th place!
Good job everyone!

Plans for the New School Building
From Monday 4th February we are displaying in the school foyer presentations from the three architects competing to build the school extension. Anyone who is interested can come by between 8 and 4.30 to have a look. In March one of the three will be chosen by jury and work will begin, in cooperation with the school, before the summer. We are expecting the building to be finished by the summer of 2015.

Christmas Concert
At our traditional Christmas concert the string orchestra played and the Zwitscherling and Getekids choirs sang. Over 100 children were very well prepared by Sabine Krivec, Stefanie Adler and Genevieve van der Bent.
The Parents` Orchestra, led by Elke Rüskamp played beautifully and afterward enjoyed a Christmas party in the teachers` room.
