Project Day - Water is Precious
Today was project day for the third grade and the theme was `Water is Precious`an initiative from Friends of the Earth.
There were 8 stations for finding things out, experimenting and calculating. These were approached very enthusiastically and the children found them fascinating. They discovered that they could even make music with water - this was definitely the top favourite activity!
At the end of the project day everyone was of the same opinion - we want to use our precious water even more responsibly.

Top Place Again for Gete Chess Players
In the Aula of Schulzentrum Habenhausen there were 108 chessboards with 216 children playing simultaneously.
There were moments when one could hear all 108 chess clocks ticking, but the silence was often punctuated by excited voices and cheers, not just from the children!
The two Gete teams were well prepared. The previous Sunday , our top third graders, Jakob R, Julie L, Malte A and Moritz R went to a Youth Series - a singles competion in Aurich. They all did well there, especially Jakob, who beat the absolute favourite! Then on Monday morning the children played a training tournament in the new science room at school.
By now they are getting used to doing well at these competitions and at the Habenhausen Championship the Gete Team were ranked 4th. We narrowly missed qualifying for the German Championship, but our team is relatively young and we have high hopes for next year!
Gete I were the best pure school chess team, with not one club player in the team and Gete II played self confidently and ranked 14th, which is well into the top quarter of the league table!
At the end the exact positions were:
I 1)Jakob 2) Moritz 3)Malte 4) Jan Gregor
II 1)Fynn 2)Johann 3) Julie 4/5) Moritz/Gregor
Thanks to Herr Delor who helped out on Thursday.

151 New Books
Two donations have made it possible for us to provide 151 brand new books for the school library. The Schwachhausen local authority had already allocated us €1000 from the Global Fund and Bremen Leselust gave a further €600. Many of our pupils have written interesting stories for Bremen Leselust (see the blog for December)
Nearly all the childrens`wishes, which we have been gathering over the last few weeks have been fulfilled. Angelika Zobel and Frieder Poets can be seen here enjoying the books with the children.

Project Week - Story Magic
Today was the opportunity for each group to present the result of their hard work and to see what other groups had been doing. Parents and guests were also here to see what everyone had been up to and they were all very impressed.
The co-operation with the University, School for the Blind, Kubo and Theatrium worked very well. A big compliment to all participants.
